We know what you're thinking.

Not ANOTHER adult alternative pop group with two guys playing Chapman Stick, an eclectic, one-man-band percussion section and three chick singers doing tight, ethereal, heart-squeezing harmonies.

How cliché.

Nope, third door down is a lot of things, but cliché has never been one of them. Formed around the music of Kira and Casey Arrillaga, TDD has been through many incarnations and transmogrifications over the last few years, but they've never disobeyed the call of their own personal muses. They started as a simple, self-contained duo, and back then the thrill was listening to Kira's unparalleled vocals wrapping around Casey's skillful playing and distinctive songwriting style. But with the release of their 2000 album "Angels," third door down was a group that found itself blooming.

First Tracy Berna joined on harmony vocals, followed by Teresa Willis, two artists in their own rights with great pipes and a lot of style. Then Colin Jenkinson threw in his utterly original, ambient Stick playing to fill out the mix. Barry Wood hopped on board (and made a lot of noise doing so) just in time to join the band's tour of Italy in 2001. When the six of them were finally assembled on a stage and pouring their hearts into it, a collective light bulb went off, and the group looked at each other with a hypothetical silly grin on its face - they realized they had a REALLY good thing going on.

They want to keep doing it, and they'd especially like to do so for you. Won't you join them? In case you haven't caught them live or heard one of the songs they've contributed to various film soundtracks (or even if you have), keep an eye peeled - they're currently playing all over to promote their hot new album "refraction."

Casey Arrillaga is almost single-mindedly obsessed with third door down in a way that would make him a dangerous stalker-fan if he didn't happen to play Stick in the band and co-write all the songs. Since he does these things, the rest of the crew keeps him around (although they count on Kira to keep an eye on him). During lapses back into consciousness he enjoys volunteering in his daughter's kindergarten class, for whom he also writes songs. He also collects really loud shirts, though mostly not of his own volition.

Kira Arrillaga has planned on singing professionally since she was three years old. She has performed in punk, country and Latin rock bands, but third door down has secured her services ever since she and Casey met in the classical music program at Cal State Fullerton. The two began writing, recording and performing together almost immediately, releasing their first recording as third door down in 1990. Kira is also a mother, a poet, and a founding member of the Antelope Valley Interfaith Choir. One of Kira's most impressive skills is her ability to perform at full voice while holding 40-odd pounds of small snuffling child. She can also be counted upon to giggle helplessly in the face of Dave Barry books.

Tracy Berna came into the band in a somewhat sideways manner, from the world of standup. Although she's been singing all her life, and has honed her vocal skills with many years in high school choirs, vocal groups and solo performing, she was a touring comedian when she and the Arrillagas were all performing at the now-infamous Iguana Cafe in North Hollywood. When Tracy decided to pick up music again, third door down was there to challenge her. She's still a very busy writer, with both her own projects and as a professional animation writer for television. She's also into all things Internet, and already knows her bio picture is blurry - she doesn't care and likes it anyway. A clearer (but not really more helpful) picture of her can be found on the cover of "Weird Al" Yankovic's May 2003 release "Poodle Hat".

Teresa Willis is another Iguana Alumnus, performing there as a poet and general Chick To Be Reckoned With. She is widely recognized as a Diva Extraordinaire of the English language, having written songs, plays, and numerous published poems including a book of her own works called Heart Closet. At present, she is the author of one existing (and numerous impending) screenplays with which she hopes to (and will probably) achieve world domination. She performs with L.A.'s premiere women's choir, Vox Femina, to which she has also contributed music and original lyrics. She resides with the Fair Cricket and some of the greatest dogs (and cat) ever known. She would also follow Eddie Izzard to the ends of the earth (who wouldn't?), and wants to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer when she grows up.

Colin Jenkinson is the kind of person that you have to meet, because we can't explain him. His Stick playing is so original and ear-grabbing that guys like Tony Levin are fans of his. His other musical endeavors - in groups like Cathedral & Rum, Bovine Antenna and Flavored Dementia - reflect not only his broad musical tastes, but his skill with band names as well. Other adventures in naming - specifically, that of his children, Emma and Noah - were ruled out by his much more level-headed wife Jean. In his spare time, Colin likes telling jokes that make the band either cringe in pain or collapse laughing for 20 minutes solid, or both. Visit Colin's world at smalldogoddio.com.

Barry Wood is the kind of person who - luckily for third door down - has trouble saying no to new projects. Between commuting ridiculous distances from San Clemente to perform with TDD and his time with his band Edison Suit, Barry runs his own studio, The Other Room, from which he does CD mastering and produces and engineers albums for other artists. In his copious free time he goes mountain biking (and has the scars to prove it), is big on Monty Python references (I'm not dead yet & it's only a flesh wound are both useful in mountain biking) and is a great dad to his daughter, Loren (who does a good Black Knight impression).
